When we board dogs in our home, we make sure they get plenty of exercise, fresh air, and fun. One of our favorite spots to take them is to Green Lane Park. Today, we are going to introduce you to that park and tell you more about the important role it plays in our boarding services.

What is Green Lane Park?

You’ll find Green Lane Park at 2144 Snyder Rd, Green Lane, PA 18054, close to the communities of Green Lane and Perkiomenville. The park offers 3,400 acres of beautiful natural space crisscrossed by over 20 miles of trails. Two beautiful lakes reflect the surrounding woodlands, offering a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The park’s history dates clear back to 1939. That was when a 425-acre park known as Upper Perkiomen Valley Park originally was founded. Green Lane Reservoir Park then opened in 1983. The two parks were joined together into Green Lane Park in 1998.

Today, the park offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Visitors can go hiking, boating, camping, fishing, picnicking, mountain biking, horseback riding, sledding, cross-country skiing, and ice skating. The park is also home to mammals like deer, beavers, foxes and squirrels. Additionally, the National Audubon Society lists it as an “Important Bird Area.”

The park allows visitors to bring pets so long as they are on a leash. When we walk dogs at Green Lane Park or elsewhere in our local area, we always keep them on a leash for their safety.

We also keep other aspects of safety in mind at all times when walking your dog. Since Green Lane Park is a natural setting, that means keeping an eye out for sharp rocks on the trail, oncoming cyclists or horseback riders, wildlife, or other potential hazards.

Why a Trip to Green Lane Park is Great for Your Dog

Here are some of the top reasons we take dogs to Green Lane Park while they are staying with us.

Fall leaves at Green Lane Park

1. Your dog gets some exercise.

One of the prime reasons we take your dog on walks in Green Lane Park is simply to get some exercise. We want to make sure your pet is getting the daily workout he needs for healthy muscles and joints and a strong cardiovascular system.

2. A trip to the park is mentally stimulating.

Like humans, dogs can suffer from stress and boredom if they are cooped up at home all day.

Walking in Green Lane Park is the perfect antidote to boredom. Your pets will not only enjoy exercising in the wide open spaces the park offers, but will also love taking in all the smells, sights and sounds of nature. This is their chance to explore and feed their curiosity.

That means that they also tend to be calmer and happier when we get back home. The result can be deep, restful, restorative sleep. That also plays an important role in regulating your pet’s physical and mental health.

3. Visiting the park is a social opportunity for your pet.

When you and your dog are apart, your pet can experience separation anxiety and loneliness. Nothing will stop your dog from missing you while boarding with us, but it is important to us that your pets never feel alone.

By taking your dogs to the park to walk and play, we are bonding with them and letting them know they are safe and cared for.

To be honest, this job is all reward for us—just having the chance to spend time with these beautiful animals brings us endless smiles, laughter and joy.

If we can show your pets the same great time they show us, you can rest assured they will have a blast.

Green Lane Park Trails

Now you know how visiting Green Lane Park can benefit your dog physically and psychologically. But you probably want to know more about what your pet will see and do in the park itself.

Here are a few of our favorite trails in Green Lane Park for dog walking:

  • Perkiomen Trail: This trail connects to a number of others, including the Blue Trail, Orange Trail, Green Lane Connector Trail, and the Schuylkill River Trail in Oaks. The trail is easy, making it appropriate for most dogs. It runs along Deep Creek Lake and Knight Lake, and is located close to most of the park’s amenities, making it a convenient choice.

  • Red Trail: This trail runs along the north part of the park, providing lovely views of the water. It connects to the Green Lane Connector Trail and the Blue Trail, and is easy to moderate. While there are fewer amenities along this trail, it is a great option for getting away from the crowds that sometimes clutter up the camping and picnicking areas near Perkiomen Trail.

  • Orange Trail: Just south of the Perkiomen Trail and amenities is the Orange Trail, which forms a convenient loop. It is easy to moderate, and offers the chance for your dogs to enjoy the woodland setting to its fullest.

Sometimes when the picnicking areas are not too crowded, we also just relax with your dogs and play with them in the grass. Just getting some fresh air and attention can be all your pets need to have a great day.
